Last weekend we attended the National Poultry Show held at the International Exhibition Centre, Telford, England. We brought a small team of 6 birds with entries in 4 separate classes.
There were over 7,000 entries on display at an event which attracts the top poultry and waterfowl breeders from across the United Kingdom and Ireland so we just hoped to try and pick up some cards and use it as a platform to assess the standard of our birds.
Overall we came away really pleased with 4 birds placed first to fourth in their respective classes.
1st Large Fowl Black Orpington Cockeral class
4th White Wyandotte Pullet class.
3rd Buff Orpington Cockeral class
2nd Buff Orpington Pullet class.
The exhibits in the Buff Orpington classes, in particular, the pullet class were of a very high standard with 12 entries so to be placed second in this class on my first occasion showing in the Buff Orpington Club Show was a great encouragement.
Highlight of the trip was being awarded the ‘Best Newcomer Cup’ for my success with the Buff Orpington’s by the Buff Orpington Club.
This was my first experience of showing at Telford and whilst I have to admit it was a bit daunting given the scale of the event it’s one that I thoroughly enjoyed. Congratulations to the Poultry Club of Great Britain on an extremely well run event. Thanks also to the judges for the professional way they conducted the judging and for providing feedback and the other exhibitors who stopped to say hello and made us feel very welcome.
Looking forward to The National 2020 already!
