Availability.

To maintain our high standards we only breed a limited number of chickens each year and these are sold on a first come first served basis. However if you wish to reserve a particular breed in advance just let us know and we will do so on receipt of a deposit (typically 25% of the estimated value).

The fact that items are listed on the website or in an advertisement does not guarantee availability – this is especially true of breeding stock and hatching eggs. Availability depends on factors such as the time of year and current flock numbers, as well as the response to advertisement and web promotion. In all cases you should contact the Partner named beside the item of interest to confirm availability and price.

Delivery

Live Birds.

In the interests of animal welfare and to ensure the quality of the stock delivered we prefer customers to collect the birds from our farms in County Tyrone. However we may, by prior arrangement be able to deliver significant orders within Northern Ireland and can arrange courier delivery throughout Ireland and Great Britain. Contact us to discuss these options.

Hatching Eggs.

These are usually despatched within 2 days of receipt of payment. Carriage will be by Royal Mail 1 st class recorded delivery unless otherwise agree with the customer.

The standard delivery cost by Royal Mail 1 st class recorded delivery , including packing within the UK or Ireland.

Other destinations and special deliveries can be arranged. The cost will always be agreed with the customer prior to despatch.

Hatching eggs are packed in carefully selected strong polystyrene boxes with each egg in its own insulated “cell”. The packaging is clearly marked as Fragile and is secured using strong adhesive tape.

Quality Control.

Clogher Valley Poultry is run by poultry enthusiasts who over many years have built an enviable reputation for the quality of their stock. The breeding stock is kept in small isolated flocks which are fed on specialist breeding pellets and regularly wormed to ensure the health of the breeding hens and their offspring.

Hatching eggs are collected within a day of being laid and are then candled to remove any cracks before despatched to customers within 48 hours. The eggs are therefore fresh and leave Clogher Valley Poultry in as good a condition as possible. We will not despatch any egg which we would not be happy to place in one of our own incubators. The fact that we are regularly breeding our own stock ensures that we know our fertility ratios and can detect any issues at an early stage.

Replacement Policy .

Hatching eggs are a natural product and there will always be a small number of infertile eggs produced by even the best stock. If, despite our best efforts your delivery of hatching eggs does not live up to our high standards we will replace them.

What we expect you to do is to candle the eggs supplied between 7-9 days after receipt and if less than half of the eggs are fertile, you should return the infertile eggs to us in their original packing box. Provided the eggs are received by us within 14 days of the original date of despatch and we confirm that less than half the eggs supplied are fertile, we will replace the infertile eggs (subject to availability).

Return postage to Clogher Valley Poultry will however have to be paid by the purchaser . If replacement eggs are not available within a period of 2 months of the original supply date we will refund the value of the infertile eggs and your return postage.

In the case of live birds these will have been carefully inspected prior to supply and so they are not covered by our replacement policy.

Care of Eggs and Poultry.

For advice on keeping poultry, including hatching and incubating eggs see the “Thinking of Keeping Poultry” section of this website.

It is important that when purchasing hatching eggs you treat them with care before they are placed in the incubator. Immediately after receipt they should be allowed to rest nose down for at least 12 hours before gradually being brought up to room temperature and placed in the incubator within 24 hours of receipt.
